FILE FOR LIFE
The File For Life was an initiative based on the Vial for Life. It was developed by SeniorsNL with partners within the NLNPEA along with with the Paramedic Association of NL, the RCMP, the RNC, and the Citizens’ Crime Prevention Association of Newfoundland and Labrador.
My organization would like to start a File For Life program in our community. How can we get started?
The File for Life pilot project was designed for community organizations to run in their own community. To find out if an organization is running the program in NL, call the SeniorsNL at 1-800-563-5599 or email info@seniorsnl.ca. It is up to the community organization to run the program and promote it to both the public and emergency responders. Organizations will need to find the funds to get the supplies reprinted as needed.
What is File For Life?
The File For Life* is a way for you to provide vital medical information to emergency responders (paramedics, police, firefighters, etc.) should you ever be sick or injured at home and unable to speak for yourself. It consisted of a vinyl envelope with a medical information form (which you need to fill out) inside, which you can stick in clear sight on your fridge for emergency responders to find if needed.
NOTE: Our initial supplies are gone and we can’t send out individual ones. However, contact info@seniorsnl.ca at SeniorsNL or call us TOLL FREE at 1-800-563-5599 as we may be able to refer people to other organizations that still have supplies
Who should use File For Life?
Older adults – especially those living alone
People with chronic medical conditions or life-threatening allergies
All File For Life texts, data and documents are in the public domain and may be freely downloaded, copied and printed provided no change to the content is introduced, and the source is acknowledge.
